In a Saturday episode of CNN’s Newsroom with Jim Acosta, the eponymous host called out Republican leaders for being “like an American Taliban,” and Fox News personality Tucker Carlson for being a “human manure spreader” in response to statements they’ve made on Afghan refugees coming to America.
In a segment titled, “It’s the far-right, not Afghan refugees, posing a threat to democracy,” Acosta said that “leading figures on the far-right have been sounding the alarm on Afghan evacuees all week. The refugees are coming. The refugees are coming.” Acosta cut to a clip of Rep. Louie Gohmert saying that of the Afghan refugees coming into America, “there is a significant percentage that are future Boston Marathon bombers, because they’re not doing adequate vetting.”
