Newark New Jersey Unveils Massive George Floyd Statue, Wants Citizens To Forget The Man, Remember The ‘Struggles’

City is honoring a career criminal who has become an inspirational symbol to many



A 700-pound statue of George Floyd now sits in front of Newark City Hall. It will remain there for at least a year, as what city officials say they hope will be a reminder of the impact of the Minnesota man’s death.

“George Floyd represents a lot more than himself at this juncture in history,” Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka said during a ceremony Wednesday where the statue was unveiled to the public. “Hopefully when people walk by it and they see it…hopefully it inspires them to become active in the struggles that are happening right here in Newark and right here in New Jersey.”
