An editor for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has defended a deleted tweet saying she was “angry” Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) survived Covid-19 amid backlash.
“Tried to watch Vanita Gupta’s confirmation hearing but got too angry Grassley survived COVID,” Rebecca McCray tweeted on Tuesday.

Gupta, Biden’s pick for associate attorney general, has faced criticism from Republican lawmakers for her attacks on the party, including calling the Republican National Convention “three nights of racism, xenophobia, and outrageous lies.’”
