(Washington Examiner) An energy watchdog sued the Biden administration through the Freedom of Information Act on Tuesday, demanding information on President Joe Biden’s climate envoy, John Kerry’s staff and office.
The group, Power The Future, alleged the State Department, which houses Kerry’s office, repeatedly refused to disclose the names and job titles of Kerry’s staff and similarly resisted congressional oversight into the special envoy for climate’s office.
For nearly three years, John Kerry has been jet-setting on the international climate conference circuit while sending taxpayers the bill. Today, we begin the process of teaching John Kerry and Joe Biden that they work for the taxpayers,” PTF Executive Director Daniel Turner told Fox News. “The American people are on the receiving end of countless green mandates and rules, gas stove bans and skyrocketing utility bills, with no opportunity for consent or input, and many of these decisions are hatched in John Kerry’s office. That is why it is our hope that this litigation will finally bring to light the information we deserve to know.”
Turner said the lawsuit was seeking information on the names of Kerry’s staff, the goals of the office, the outside partnerships of the office, and the office’s budget.
The lawsuit comes after the organization filed a FOIA request in January that sought the names of Kerry’s staff. The Boston Herald reported in January that Kerry’s staff costs U.S. taxpayers a total of $4.3 million per year but did not include the names of each staffer despite some making as much as $186,680 per year. The Boston Herald said it received the information via a FOIA request.
