(SF Gate) The historic San Francisco mansion that was the former home of Robin Williams is for sale.
Perched overlooking the ocean is 540 El Camino Del Mar, now on the market for $25 million. The seller is Williams’ ex-wife, Marsha Garces Williams, who lived in the home for over 30 years and raised their children there.
The Sea Cliff home was built in 1962 and designed by architect Earle B. Bertz. Bertz was the principal architect for Allen & Co., a firm credited with the distinctive look and feel of San Francisco’s Sea Cliff neighborhood.
Bertz grew up in Pacific Heights at the turn of the 20th century. After graduation, he went on to work with two giants of San Francisco Bay Area architecture: as an apprentice for the legendary Albert Farr and as a draftsman for William C. Hays. Bertz also worked on the Wolf House, designed for Jack London in Glen Ellen, which mysteriously burned down before it could be finished.
540 El Camino Del Mar was built for the Olson family, creators of Oliver J. Olson & Company, a successful lumber, shipping and towing business both locally and abroad.
