(PM.) In Disney’s ongoing effort to be more inclusive, Disney Parks discreetly announced that they will be ditching the term “fairy godmother” for gender neutral language.
The changes specifically affect the parks Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutiques in both Disneyland and Disney World, where young girls and boys ages 3 to 12 get to transform into princesses or knights, New York Post reports.
Disney says that the boutiques will reopen on Aug. 25 after being shutdown due to the Covid pandemic, and when employees return they will call themselves “Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices” instead of their former name “Fairy Godmothers in Training.”
“This way, cast members that might not identify as female can still be part of the process to dress up & style the children without having to refer to themselves as a female Disney character,” Disney blog “Streaming the Magic” wrote.
However, not all Disney fans were excited about the changes. Individuals across social media slammed the company for participating in “woke” culture, the outlet reports.
“Get woke, go broke,” a user tweeted.
