Missy Owens, a niece of President Joe Biden, was working for Coca Cola in government relations and helping lobby against a bill banning US companies from importing goods from China made with slave labor.
Owens was working for Coca Cola up until Nov. 2020, giving her plenty of time to work on trying to convince the government to table the Uighur Force Labor Prevention act, and to sweep China’s human rights abuses in places such as Xinjiang and Tibet under the rug.
During Owens’s stay at Coca Cola, the company also hired two third-party agents to help them in their crusade against limits to trading with mainland China. Sidley Austin LLP was tasked with such from Jan. to Mar. 2020, and then in July 2020, Coca Cola struck another similar deal with the Enterprise Consulting Group, according to Fox Business.
While Owens didn’t personally lobby the issue, she managed the department of the Coca Cola company which was responsible for all lobbying, so at the very least, she would have had to sign off on the measures.
