MOST STATES AND LOCAL jurisdictions throughout the nation declared states of emergency in March in response to the coronavirus pandemic. As stay-at-home orders were introduced and employment rates cratered, a majority of states also introduced eviction moratoria to help struggling renters stay in their homes.
But even as the U.S. has failed to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus seven months later, most states have allowed their eviction protections for renters to lapse.
