(BPR) It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s taxpayer-funded government salary was slashed to $1 on Tuesday by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives — the measure passed late Tuesday via voice vote as an amendment to the 2024 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act, according to Fox News.
The amendment to the standalone funding bill that covers the General Services Administration, Securities and Exchange Commission and other related agencies was introduced by U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) — it remains to be seen if the measure remains in the overall bill.
Of course, the measure does not actually fire Buttigieg — somewhat comically, X’s Community Notes felt the need to point this out — but if someone is not being paid for the position they hold, it’s essentially the same thing.
In responding to a tweet from TPUSA reporter Savanah Hernandez, Greene added: “Pete Buttigieg doesn’t do his job. It’s all about fake photo ops and taxpayer-funded private jet trip to accept LGBTQ awards for him,” Greene added. “I’m happy my amendment passed, but he doesn’t deserve a single penny.”
