Bishop Lamor Miller-Whitehead of Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries and his wife were robbed of their jewelry at gunpoint by multiple armed men while giving a sermon Sunday morning in their Brooklyn, New York church.
According to CBS New York, as the gunmen entered the church, Bishop Whitehead told the them that ‘I’m not going to do anything because I know you’re coming for me.’
In speaking with the news media afterwards, Whitehead claimed that he may have been a target of the thieves because he had turned in a shooting suspect to police back in May. The New York Post reported that at the time of the robbery, Miller-Whitehead and his wife were wearing more than $1 million in jewels and gold, including a $390,000 Cuban link chain, a $200,000 men’s gold chain and a pair of his and hers wedding rings worth $175,000. Other items stolen included a $75,000 Rolex watch, a $75,000 Cavalier watch, two rings valued at $50,000, a pair of diamond earrings valued at $25,000, a $20,000 Episcopal cross and a $10,000 Episcopal gold cross.
The video below, which was being live-streamed at the time of the robbery, appears suspicious in nature because of the way the event played out.
The bishop immediately goes to the floor upon the robbers entering the building and well prior to being approached. Little if any words can be heard as the gunmen casually and without hurry, rob the bishop and his wife before leaving the church.
While there is no information at this time to suggest it was anything but a robbery, one has to wonder if police don’t have similar questions surrounding the event especially given the dollar amount of the jewelry involved.
