Top White House Covid adviser Anthony Fauci insists he carries no blame for the coronavirus outbreak, shooting back after GOP Senator Rand Paul demanded he own up to funding potentially dangerous viral research in Wuhan, China.

During yet another heated exchange at a Senate committee hearing on Thursday, Senator Paul (R-Kentucky) argued that Fauci’s agency, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), approved funding for risky “gain of function” research at the Wuhan lab, and that the health adviser should acknowledge doing so and resign his post.

“Until you accept responsibility, we’re not going to get anywhere close to trying to prevent another lab leak of this dangerous sort of experiment,” Paul said. “You won’t admit that it’s dangerous, and for that lack of judgment, I think it’s time that you resign.”
