Sound Fishy? Salmon Sperm Injections Is The Latest Anti-Aging, Wrinkle-Reducing Trend

Hollywood stars like Jennifer Anniston are using it

(Metro) With 900,000 Botox injections carried out in the UK every year, it’s clear we certainly aren’t afraid of going under the needle in search of youthful, wrinkle-free skin.

We’ve seen it all over the past few years, from Baby Botox to derma and lip fillers, the ‘tweakments’ industry has been booming with readily-available treatments now in your local salon – proving that picture-perfect skin is no longer a secret of the rich and famous.

But a new anti-aging treatment is gaining traction – not only as it’s tipped to be a top trend for 2024 (and even has the Jennifer Aniston seal of approval), but mainly down to its stomach-turning main ingredient.

‘Salmon sperm’ is the latest ingredient people are injecting into their face – but unlike Botox, which uses a toxin to prevent a muscle from moving for a limited time, this fishy treatment is derived from the animal’s DNA, making it a more natural option.

As the name suggests, the squeamish treatment involves having a small needle of a substance derived from salmon sperm injected into the face. This then needs to be repeated around three times a year for maximum wrinkle-free results.

Speaking about the trend on This Morning, tweakment expert Nadine Baggott said: ‘So I mean, this is not really salmon sperm, it’s derived from it.

‘So we have purified salmon DNA… so it’s a section on the salmon sperm that has been…purified and we inject it into the skin around the eyes to stimulate collagen in the area to get new blood and nutrients to the area, and also to neutralise free radicals. So it’s a really, really beautiful treatment. It’s a hot one at the moment.’

The treatment, that’s been sought-after in Korea for years, is now growing globally in popularity mainly down to its natural appeal.

Nadine explained: ‘What’s interesting about it, is there’s a little bit of a weariness at fillers and pillow faces, so what we’re looking for in the beauty industry is an alternative and natural version.

She added: ‘Also, can I just say that if you are worried about needles… it is the tiniest needle… it’s about the same size as a Botox needle.’

Various studies have found that the treatment can be beneficial for different skin types. According to research published in Pharmaceuticals in 2021, polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) – which is extracted from the sperm cells of salmon – has helped improve the healing of wounds in human skin and lessen the inflammation.
