Brooklyn Center City Manager Curt Boganey was fired on Monday, after publicly disagreeing with Mayor Mike Elliott’s statement that the police officer who fatally shot Duante Wright should be terminated immediately.

Mayor Elliott posted on Twitter “Effective immediately our city manager has been relieved of his duties, and the deputy city manager will be assuming his duties moving forward. I will continue to work my hardest to ensure good leadership at all levels of our city government.”

Daunte Wright, 20, was fatally shot during a traffic stop after resisting arrest for an outstanding warrant on a weapons charge. Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said the officer who shot Wright had intended to use a Taser and fired their gun instead. The name of the female officer who fired the involved in the shooting has not been released.
